A car ferry crosses the lake from here, which occasionally beats driving round.
Horgen sits on the western shore of Lake Zurich, further out than Thalwil and with considerably more room. It is also one end of the car ferry that carries vehicles straight across the water, which is more useful to a removal than it sounds.
The lake is long and narrow, and getting from one shore to the other means driving all the way round through Zurich at one end or Rapperswil at the other. Between those two points a ferry carries road vehicles across in a few minutes.
For a mover working both shores in a day, or arriving from the eastern side, that crossing is a genuine saving rather than a novelty. It is not always the right answer, since the ferry has its own timetable and capacity, but it is worth the question.
Horgen itself is comfortable to deliver into. It is a proper town rather than a strip of commuter housing, with space between buildings, somewhere for a vehicle to stand, and a good deal of later housing with usable lifts.
Horgen also appears as Zimmerberg and Zürichsee. Whichever version you searched for, this is the same city and the same page. Give the mover the address exactly as it appears on your Swiss lease.
The saving is real but conditional. Driving round the lake between the two shores means going through Zurich or out to Rapperswil, and depending on traffic that can cost an hour. The crossing takes minutes.
Against that, the ferry runs to a timetable, has finite space for a large vehicle, and costs money. On a single delivery straight from the north it is usually irrelevant, because the lorry was coming down the western shore anyway.
Where it earns its place is a vehicle working both shores, or arriving from the east. Ask the mover whether it is part of the plan, and treat it as information rather than as something to insist on.
Horgen developed as a working town in its own right, with textile and silk manufacturing behind it, before the shore became a Zurich commuter belt. That history shows in the layout.
There is more room between buildings than there is closer to the city, more of the housing is later and better provided for, and a vehicle can generally get somewhere sensible and turn. Compared with Thalwil a few kilometres north, it is straightforward work.
The older centre near the shore is tighter and needs the usual arrangement with the commune, but it is a modest area rather than the whole town.

Of everything a mover can take on, these three matter most for Horgen. These are the three movers hear about on most enquiries.

Lake Zurich has two quite different shores. The western side, where Horgen sits, runs from Thalwil out past here towards the upper lake. The eastern side carries Küsnacht and Meilen and has its own character and its own prices.
People describe addresses as being on Lake Zurich without saying which bank, and on this lake that is not enough. The two sides are an hour apart by road even though they face each other.
Give the commune name. Everything here is German speaking and the names themselves are unambiguous, but the shore is not.
A vehicle carrying ferry that crosses Lake Zurich from Horgen to Meilen on the eastern shore in a few minutes. Driving round instead means going through Zurich at one end or out to Rapperswil at the other, which depending on traffic can cost an hour.
Possibly not, and that is fine. On a single delivery arriving from the north the lorry was coming down this shore anyway, so the crossing is irrelevant. It earns its place when a vehicle is working both shores in a day, or arriving from the east.
Generally yes. Horgen developed as a working town with textile and silk manufacturing behind it before the shore became a commuter belt, so there is more room between buildings, more later housing with usable lifts, and somewhere for a vehicle to stand and turn.
The older centre near the shore, which is tighter and needs the usual reserved standing point arranged with the commune. It is a modest area rather than the whole town, and away from it Horgen is comfortable work by Zurich area standards.
Considerably. The two sides are an hour apart by road even though they face each other, and they have different character and different prices. Describing an address as being on Lake Zurich is not enough. Give the commune name.
No, it is its own commune with its own administration. Registration on arrival and any parking application go to Horgen rather than to the city, even though a large share of residents commute in and the town functions as part of the Zurich belt.
German, in the canton of Zurich. The commune, your lease and the utilities all work in German. The town name is unambiguous and has no alternative form, so the address itself gives no trouble once the shore is clear.
