Upper town on a spur, lower town in a gorge, and a name shared with Germany.
Fribourg is built on a rocky spur inside a loop of the Sarine, with a medieval lower town down in the gorge beneath it. The difference in height between the two is considerable, and it is the whole delivery question here.
The plateau above carries most of the modern town, the university and the majority of housing, and delivering there is ordinary. Below it, reached by roads that descend steeply into the loop of the river, sits the medieval lower town of narrow lanes and old stone buildings.
Those two are not the same job. The descent into the lower town is tight, the lanes at the bottom were laid out long before vehicles, and getting a large lorry down and back out again is not always possible. A shuttle from the plateau is the usual answer.
A quote written from a Fribourg postcode without asking which level you are on is a quote that will change on the day. Send the street, and say whether you are up or down.
Fribourg also appears as Freiburg and Friburgo. Whichever version you searched for, this is the same city and the same page. Give the mover the address exactly as it appears on your Swiss lease.
The lower town sits inside the loop of the Sarine, below the spur, and it is reached by roads that drop steeply from the plateau. The lanes at the bottom are medieval, narrow and in places restricted, and the buildings are old stone with stairwells to match.
Getting a full sized vehicle down there is one problem. Getting it back out, loaded or empty, can be a larger one. The practical answer is usually a smaller vehicle shuttling from a standing point above, which is routine here but is a separate priced stage.
On the plateau above, delivery is unremarkable: modern housing, sensible streets, adequate lifts. The two halves of the same town could hardly be more different to work in.

Fribourg is the French name and Freiburg the German one, and both are used because the canton straddles the language border. That much is ordinary for Switzerland. The complication is that Freiburg im Breisgau, a considerably larger city, sits over the border in Germany.
An address written simply as Freiburg, sent by email without a postcode, is genuinely ambiguous, and it has sent more than one consignment towards the wrong country. It is the most avoidable mistake on this delivery.
Always send the Swiss postcode with the address, and where there is any doubt write Fribourg, Switzerland in full. Friburgo is the Italian form and you will meet it rarely.

Why a lower town address is priced differently.
The canton contains both French and German speaking communes and the border between them runs through it. Fribourg itself is predominantly French speaking, but German is present in the administration and in the surrounding area, and the university teaches in both.
For a move that means checking which language your particular commune deals in, rather than assuming from the canton. It affects the registration on arrival, the parking application for the vehicle and the delivery note.
The bilingual university brings a steady international intake, which produces smaller moves on academic timetables, usually well suited to sharing lorry space.
It is the one real risk here. Freiburg im Breisgau in Germany is a considerably larger city with almost the same name, and an address written as Freiburg without a postcode is genuinely ambiguous. Always send the Swiss postcode, and write Fribourg, Switzerland in full where there is any doubt.

The Swiss one, yes. Freiburg is the German name for Fribourg and both are used within the canton. Friburgo is the Italian form. But Freiburg im Breisgau in Germany is an entirely different city, which is why the postcode matters more here than almost anywhere else in Switzerland.
Straightforward. Fribourg sits on the A12 between Bern and Lausanne on flat ground, with no pass and no altitude to plan around, so the run in is one of the more predictable in the country. The complication is entirely local, at the point where the town divides into two levels.
