Insurance is the part of a removals quote most people skim. It is also the part that decides what happens on the one occasion something goes wrong. Pardubice draws a lot of technical and engineering arrivals, and technical households tend to contain equipment worth more than the furniture around it.
The city has 92,713 residents and sits about twenty kilometres from Hradec Kralove, with which it shares an urban area of roughly 350,400. Pardubice movers cover Chrudim and Svitavy from the same base.
What follows is the part of an international moving quote worth reading properly, using plain words rather than the ones on the certificate.
| Population | 92,713 |
|---|---|
| Twenty | kilometres from Hradec Kralove |
| Engineering | and electronics base |
| Cover | based on declared value |
| Overland | the whole way, no sea leg |
The words fully insured mean nothing on their own. Ask these four and write the answers down. Two removal companies quoting similar prices can differ enormously here, and it is the only part of a quote where the cheap option is sometimes genuinely worse rather than simply leaner.
Replacement value in the destination country, not what you paid in Britain a decade ago. If the basis is not replacement value, you are underinsured before the lorry moves.
Most policies cap what they will pay on any single item unless it has been listed and valued separately. Find the cap, then look around your home for anything above it.
A low premium with a high excess is not cheap cover. It is a different product. Compare the two numbers together rather than one at a time.
Ask for the exclusions in writing. Owner packed boxes, mechanical or electrical fault without external damage, and items already damaged are the usual three.
Boxes you pack yourself are frequently excluded from damage cover, or covered only for the loss of the entire box rather than for breakage inside it. This is standard across the industry and the logic is obvious: nobody can insure packing they did not see.
It is not a reason to pay for full packing on everything. Books, bedding and clothes are fine in your own boxes. It is a reason to think about which items you are quietly choosing to carry the risk on, and to let the crew pack those.
A mixed approach is normal and any decent removal service will price it: you pack the soft and unbreakable, they pack glass, china, electronics and anything you would be upset to lose.
Instruments, artwork, jewellery, collections, specialist tools, laboratory or workshop equipment. Anything that would be genuinely difficult to replace, or that exceeds the per item cap.
Listing takes an afternoon. Photograph each item, note what it would cost to replace today, and send the list to your moving company with the inventory. It also gives you a document if you ever need to make a claim, which is the point at which memory turns out to be a poor record.
Overland the whole way, with no sea leg and no container, because the country is landlocked. Your belongings cross the Channel by ferry or through the tunnel and drive through France or Belgium and Germany. Pardubice sits in the east of Bohemia, so the last part of the drive crosses the country.
Sole use of a vehicle drives straight through. A part load, which American moving companies call a consolidated shipment, shares space and waits to fill, costing less and taking longer.
Relief from import duty on personal property comes from Council Regulation (EC) No 1186/2009: normal home outside the EU for at least 12 continuous months, goods owned and used for at least six months before you left, entered for free circulation within 12 months of establishing residence. An EORI number and proof of your address are both needed. Full conditions sit on our Czech Republic removals page.
One local warning. Pardubice and Hradec Kralove are twenty kilometres apart and British customers confuse them regularly. Check the city name on the quote, the inventory and the customs entry. If you are actually moving to the other one, use the Hradec Kralove removals page.
These pages cover the parts of the job that moving companies price on their own rather than folding into a single figure.
On its own, very little. Ask what the cover is based on, what the limit per item is, what the excess is, and what is excluded. Two quotes both described as fully insured can differ enormously once those four answers are on the table. Get them in writing before you weigh one quote against another.
Replacement value, meaning what it would cost to buy the item again today in the destination country. Insuring at what you paid in Britain years ago leaves you short. Insuring at a guessed figure leaves you arguing. Value the load properly and declare it properly.
Frequently not, or covered only for loss of the whole box rather than damage inside it. This is standard across the industry and it is not a trick, but it does catch people. If you are packing yourself to save money, be clear about which items that decision leaves uninsured.
Anything of unusual value or that would be difficult to replace: instruments, art, jewellery, collections, specialist tools or technical equipment. Most policies cap the amount payable on any single item unless it has been listed and valued in advance. Listing costs nothing. Not listing can cost a great deal.
Yes. Both sit within the area served from Pardubice. The crews are the same and the customs work is identical, so put your town and street on the enquiry and the quote will price the actual address rather than the nearest city.
Usually not, if you qualify for transfer of residence relief. Council Regulation (EC) No 1186/2009 allows personal property to enter free of import duty when you move your normal home from outside the EU. You must have lived outside the EU for at least 12 continuous months and owned and used the goods for at least six months before you left.
